Extensions to the Cologne Exhibition Centre: MN’s bid for cladding the facade with profiled sheets is accepted.

The Cologne Exhibition Centre is being extended and, as well as being provided with a new access avenue, it will also have an impressive entrance and conference area plus four new halls equipped with a trend-setting profile. The style of the new halls is characterised by the modern facade design, a project covering a total of 25,000 m², for which the Neustadt-based MN Metallwarenfabrik GmbH received the contract to supply its high-quality wellTEC® aluminium profiles. The order represents the largest contract placed to date in Germany for cladding a façade with profiled sheets.
When placing the order, the clients decided on an aluminium profiled cladding from the wellTEC® (AW 18/76) range with a high-performance polyester coating in RAL 9006 (white aluminium). This MN profile met the client’s requirement for a uniform appearance to the facades of the halls which are distinguished from conventional industrial buildings by their quality and particularly by their unusual dimensions incorporating an overall sheet width of 1290 mm.
What is special about these 0.8 mm thick aluminium profiles is their exceptional width with tapering parallel corrugations; the sheets were also fabricated to the individual size required and delivered to site ready for installation. MN will install three profiles horizontally between the sheeting rails on the halls, the length of the sheets varying between 2.10 and 2.60 m depending on the spacing of the rails. In the vertical arrangement the 1.29 m wide aluminium profiles appear to be separated thanks to the prominent corrugations along the longitudinal sides of the profiles.
